Cardmaking with Cardboard & Vellum Flowers | Creative Handmade Card Idea

Who knew a simple piece of cardboard could become such a beautiful part of a handmade card? In this creative cardmaking tutorial, I’m showing you how to use cardboard as a textured, rustic element behind pretty layered vellum flowers to create a dimensional birthday card with lots of visual interest.

For this cardmaking with cardboard project, I combined scrap cardboard with die-cut vellum flowers, patterned vellum, shimmer sprays, an embossed panel, and a few simple stamped sentiments. The cardboard adds unexpected texture and dimension while helping create a beautiful backdrop for the delicate vellum flowers.

One of my favorite things about this card is that although it looks like there are a lot of layers and details, it’s actually quite simple to assemble once all of the pieces are prepared. The vellum flowers add dimension but can still fold down flat enough to fit inside an envelope.

This project is also part of the Goodwill Gals monthly video hop, where Gerilyn, Robin, and I are each sharing our own creative interpretation of a cardboard-themed cardmaking project. Be sure to check out their projects as well!

If you enjoy handmade cards, creative cardmaking ideas, vellum flowers, die-cutting, and finding new ways to use everyday materials, I hope this project gives you some inspiration for your next card.
